Extremely Large Numbers
“He tells the number of the stars; he calls them all by their names. Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.” Psalm 147:4-5
Googol: Is the large number 10 to the 100th power. It is written as the digit ‘1’ followed by 100 zeroes.
A Googol is useful when comparing with other very large quantities such as the number of subatomic particles in the universe or the possibilities in a chess game.
It is also can be used to show the difference between extremely large numbers and infinity. The verses from Psalm 147 serves the same purpose, in comparing the number of stars (counted), with the God of the Bible whose understanding is infinite (cannot be counted). The Hebrew word is ‘misper’, Strong’s H4557, to number or to count.
